Use a CD - Crafting with Dragonflies DT

Good morning all!

And here we are again, another new Crafting with Dragonflies challenge. This fortnight we have something a little different for you... We're challenging you to use a CD, either as the card itself, or on the card as decoration.

I have to admit this challenge had me stumped for some time, until I decided to paper the CD, and use it as a layer on this easel card:

I used a lovely rose digi from our sponsor QKR, and chose the LOTV "always and forever" papers to accompany it.
I added some corners cut with a die-namics die, and the sentiment is a Spellbinders die.

I scaled down and printed the rose a second time, as decoration for the bottom half, and finished off with some lovely Hobby House pearls.

Well, that's one way of using a CD, but there's so very many more. I strongly suggest you go take a peek at what the rest of the Dragonflies have thought up too!
And of course, we'd love it if you joined in.

Have a fabulous day!

Travel - CraftyHands DT

Good morning all!

It's time for another new challenge at CraftyHands today, and it's another theme I'm really fond of (it's certainly been a week for them!), Travel.

The starting point for my card was easy, as I'dfound a couple of decks of playing cards in a local charity shop some time ago, the backs of which had lovely vintage balloon images on. I absolutely had to buy them, with crafting in mind, naturally, especially as the packs were as yet unopened, and therefore in pristine condition! I've been wanting to use them on something for ages, but hadn't gotten around to it yet, so I was very glad for the excuse to do so now.
I decided on one of the two designs for my card topper.
I then dug around in my stash for some travel themed papers, and found some that I thought complemented the image in a pack from Crafty Bitz.
I still wasn't 100% happy though, so I did a little extra stamping on them with some of the Bon Voyage stamps from Docrafts, and also cut the sentiment from the accompanying paper pack.
I used Kraft card as a mat, and finally added two small buttons as simple embellishments to finish it off.

And there it is. One travel themed card.

(Just for a laugh, I thought I'd do a search for the cards online, and it looks like I missed a trick... Turns out they are a vintage set, and I could probably have made quite a bit more than the 50p I paid for them had I tried to sell them... This link is for an earlier ebay auction for a used set. I wonder how much they would have gone for before I opened it all up! lol)

Anyways, enough babble from me. It's time for you to go take a peek at the other DT creations, and then come and join in the fun. You know you want to! And of course, as always there is a prize...

Hope you all have a great day!

One for the boys - The Crafting Cafe DT

And hello again my dears!

As it's the 24th of the month, I have a second DT card to share with you, as it's my turn to post over at The Crafting Cafe. Our theme this month is One for the Boys, a personal favourite, and I got this brilliant Kenny K image to play with!

The papers are from two separate Paper cellar pads, and I figured the green one was pretty much perfect, as it has tools all over it!
I decided to make a thank you card, as I thought the image was ideal for thanking a guys who has helped someone around the house.
I did originally intend to have a little more green, rather than blue in the image, but I went with jeans in the end. Hard not to, lol.

So, any of you lovely peoples have any card ideas for the gentlemen or young lads? We'd love to see them!

Wishing you the best of days,

Sammy-x

Bright Colours - MilkCoffee DT

Good (very early!) morning everyone!

It's time for a brand new challenge over at MilkCoffee, and I have to admit this was a lot of fun, as it forced me out of my comfort zone a little... The theme is Bright Colours, and as you've probably noticed by now, I often tend towards the muted colours, or if going with brights, only using one such... Well, not so much this time!

I started off by getting out a tag, and playing with my brightest inks, then using that as a jumping off point for my card...

Turquoises, pinks, a little yellow and blue... I'd say I found the theme there somewhere along the way! lol.
The image is one of the gorgeous new ones available in the shop, and is called Lisbeth plays with Sailboat toys. She's so adorable, I think, and the fun summery image really lends itself to bright colours!
I also used some more Tim Holtz chitchat stickers to make up the sentiment.

Now, we'd love to see you all play along, and show us some lovely bright colours.

And I shall be back in a couple of hours... watch this space! ;-)

Tag it! - Rhedd & Rosie's DT

Good morning everyone.

And it seems it's Wednesday again! I'm beginning to think the other days are going MIA and it's just a series of Wednesdays in a row. It would certainly explain why this year seems to be flying by so quickly!

Either way, this particular Wednesday sees a new challenge over at Rhedd and Rosie's, and the theme this fortnight is Tag it. Meaning we want to see a tag *on* your project, not just a tag (but it could be a tag on a tag if you like!)

I used the opportunity to have another play with my Distress Inks, and made both the tag and the card I put it on as per Mr. Holtz' instruction. I'm rather pleased with how the tag came out actually, and I figured it would work nicely with the neutral look of the hessian. I do love playing with these neutral colours, and am really fond of the vintage look it produces.

The background stamp on the tag is from LOTV, and the Big Ben stamp and stamps used on the card are all Papermania. The sentiment was made with Tim Holtz chitchat words, and I added some card candi and pearls to finish it off.

So there you have it, a tag as topper for a card.

As always, I urge you to go take a peek at what the rest of the teamies have created for you, and as always there's a fab prize up for grabs:

And once again I shall be terribly jealous of the winner! lol.

Hope to see your entry soon!

Have a brilliant day!

Lots of layers - Sweet Stampin' DT

Happy Saturday everyone!

Yup, it really is Saturday again already. And Saturday means a new challenge at Sweet Stampin'! This week, the theme is a super fun one... Lots of Layers.

I had heaps of fun with this one, and ended up with something in a style I used to play with a lot before I discovered shabby chic, lol.

The stamp, coloured with Promarkers, is of course a Kenny K one, and is one of the bargains I managed to grab at the Harrogate fair. The papers are magazine freebies and I can't at this moment remember where the sentiment stamp was from, but I'll add it when I do figure it out. Oh, and there's some pearls too of course!

I really enjoyed working with the pink and black colours, especially since the pinks are a lot brighter than those I usually play with these days. I also can't remember the last time I used four different papers on a single card!

Now, my fellow Sweeties have also been layering it up for you, and their creations are waiting for you right here. Go take a peek, you know you want to!

Have a fabulous Easter weekend, and don't go too mad with the chocolate. ;-)

Mother's day/special lady - Crafting with Dragonflies DT

Hello everyone!

Is it me, or is time going by a little too fast at the moment? It seems like only a couple of days since the last Crafting With Dragonflies challenge, and here is the next one all ready to go! This fortnight we're going by the theme Mother's Day (for those of you living in parts of the world that haven't already celebrated that one recently), or otherwise a card for a Special Lady.

Our sponsors this challenge are Heather Ellis and Meljens, and I was given a Meljens digi to play with...

As you can see, I teamed the digi with some LOTV papers and sentiment tag, and embellished with organza ribbon, roses and some pearls.I used some faux stitching to try and bring everything together.

I figured the heart and sentiment made it suitable to send to one's mother - or other loved one - at any time, not just mother's day!

I hope you'll take the time to see what the rest of the team have been up to, and then come and play along!

In the meantime, be excellent to each other!

Monday 14 April 2014

Hello everyone!

And a good day to you all!

I have managed to ascend from the depths of agony (for some reason, I've been having all sorts of trouble since my trip to the dentist. The pain last week and over the weekend was unbearable!), to bring you all my offering for the upcoming LOTV 10th Birthday!

As always, what I ended up making was nothing even remotely close to the idea I first had, but I'm still pleased nonetheless...

I used two complementary images. First of all, Wish upon a star.  I teamed her up with Baskets and Bunnies paper, and had fun embellishing with a couple of dies, flowers, pearl brads, wooden heart and more!
The sentiment is from the Sentiment Tags set. A couple of numbers - printed out on the PC then covered with paper and inked slightly to make them stand out - add the finishing touch.

And then I used Dainty Dancing on the inside. I coloured her the same and used the same paper as a mat, but otherwise kept the inside plain and CAS.

Naturally I would like to enter this into the LOTV challenge this month, which is to make them a 10th birthday card!

Other challenges:

The Ribbon Girl -  Lovely Lili, Anything Goes
Stamping Sensations - Use dies and/or punches (3 dies used. Doily, scalloped circle and corner)

Hope everyone is well, and that your day is a most pleasant one.

Anything Goes - CraftyHands DT

Good morning peoples!

I'm back to let you all know about another Anything Goes challenge, this time over at CraftyHands.

And yes, Anything goes, still seems to translate to "LOTV" where I'm concerned! lol.

Here's what I made:

I used the stamp Emma Presents and paired her with some of the new Timeless Victorian papers (love, love, LOVE that pad!). The sentiment is also from LOTV.
I also used a Cheery Lynn frame die and of course the LaLaLand banner die, as well as a charm, brad and pearls from my stash.
The ivory card I used is in fact pearlised, which doesn't show on this photo, but looks sooooo lovely in person. I'm almost out of that colour, and the place I got it from has closed, so here's hoping I can find it elsewhere!

So, after you've checked out what the other gals have been making, I hope you come and join in! There's another awesome prize on offer!

I am so jealous! I LOVE the Gorjuss Girls range!

See you all soon, and have a most wonderful day!

Easter - MilkCoffee DT

Good morning my darlings!

Just thought you might all want to know that I had a most unpleasant trip to the dentist the other day, and all sympathy will be greatly appreciated as I'm feeling super sorry for myself, lol.

Another new challenge over at MilkCoffee, and we're looking for your Easter creations this time. Now, there some gorgeous new Easter digis available in the shop, so if you're stuck for an image, why not go take a peek?

I used the adorable Lisbeth and Little Bunnies and teamed her up with some First Edition papers. These are possibly my favourite Easter papers... Such lovely colours.

As you can see, I added some organza ribbon and made a bow, with a flower button on top. And liquid pearls around the edges of the purple paper to finish it off.

Please do go see what the rest of the DT have been up to, as there's several gorgeous creations there just waiting for you to come take a peek.

Have a super day!

Anything Goes! - Rhedd and Rosie DT

Goooood morning peepsicles!

We have a brand new challenge starting at Rhedd and Rosie's today, and you have no excuse for not joining in, as it's Anything Goes!

And of course there's no prizes for guessing where "Anything Goes" Led me... Straight to LOTV of course! ;-)

Here's one I made for you all earlier:

The stamp I used is called Bumble Bee Fairy. She's such a cutie, isn't she? I teamed her up with some of  the Baskets and Bunnies papers and went to town with my distressing tool. Some lace, Frantage, flowers (from WOC) and a tiny peg to embellish, and of course a simple but sweet sentiment, also from LOTV. Oh, and of course her wings are covered with Stickles, but that probably goes without saying by now, no?

Now then, my fellow teamies have been hard at work creating some gorgeous projects for you all, so I strongly suggest you go check them out. And don't forget to enter! There's a super scrummy prize up for grabs!

See you there!

Sunday 6 April 2014

Ohhhh, guess who has been playing with Mr. T. Holtz?

Morning bloggeroonies!

Well, the LOTV workshop yesterday was FAB! We each made one of Dawny's brilliant birthday planners...

How brilliant is that!?

Now, some of you may remember I mentioned I'd signed up for Sir Tim's Creative Chemistry 101 recently?
Having SO MUCH FUN with that! I've not been able to do a few of the techniques yet, as I don't have the supplies, but I totally love playing with the distress inks!

Here's my first three tags (I've made quite a few since, but they still need photographing, lol):

As you can see, I'm with Tim on the "many shades of brown" thing, lol. But I have been playing with some brighter colours too (and I bought half a dozen more at the LOTV shop yesterday, lol)

I'd love to know what you all think of my first attempts!

Have a super day!

Easter - Sweet Stampin' DT

Good morning everyone!

First of all, just a heads-up that Tonya of CraftyHands has started a FB page where she puts up great deals on crafting supplies! Why not pop over there and take a peek?

Now then, it's Saturday, which of course means Team Fi has a new challenge for you over at Sweet Stampin', and the theme is Easter.

I was lucky enough to win some really scrummy goodies from Jen recently, and amongst them what this gorgeous Saturated Canary stamp. I just couldn't resist using it to make my DT card!

Isn't she just adorably sweet? The papers are First Edition, as are the easter eggs. Ribbon and liquid pearls finish it off nicely.

Now, my fellow sweeties have prepared some lovely cards for you, so why not go take a peek and leave them some love?

And me? I'll be off to the LOTV shop shortly (I know, I should probably start paying rent soon, lol), as I'm booked into the workshop with the fabulous Dawny P this afternoon! Can't wait!

Have an excellent day everyone!

I'd like to enter this into the following challenges:

Papertake weekly - Anything Goes
Moving along with the times - Sweet Treats

Easter - Crafting with Dragonflies DT

Hello my dears,

Another hump day has arrived, and with it a new challenge for Crafting with Dragonflies.  Thank you all for your participation in the recent blog hop, and the lovely comments you all left. Stay tuned for the winners announcement this time next week!

The theme this fortnight is, rather unsurprisingly, Easter, and we're being sponsored by both Bugaboo and Squigglefly, and for this challenge I made cards with images by both companies.

My first card features the Squigglefly Easter basket builder set on the front, and another of their images on the inside.

The paper is Grace Taylor.

And for my Bugaboo card, I used Floral Easter Eggs - Egg 2

The paper on this card is First Edition "Spring Feast", and I used a Sizzix doily die as a frame and an X-Cut punch for the flowers.

So those are my contributions! Please do go take a look at what the other Dragonflies have been up to!

Have a fab day!

April challenge at Rhedd's Creative Spirit

Good morning all.

And it's the first of the month, which of course means a new challenge goes live over at Rhedd's Creative Spirit! As always, it's Any Altered Art Goes, and the team have been hard at work making some gorgeous examples for your perusal.

Here is mine. A set of drawers from the MDF man.

I started off by painting it black, inside and out, and then decorated with G45 Steampunk Spells paper.
I cut some of the little "cards" out of the pack and matted them with black card, before using them as decorations on the top and sides. Some gears die-cut from black card and metal brads and chains worked well with the papers, I thought, to give it a steampunk feel.

I dry-brushed the gears with bronze paint, to give the impression of "dirty" metal. I attached the brass chain with a Tim Holtz ring fastner on one side, and covered up the other side with a coin charm that used to be part of a skirt! (Just for the record, I loved that skirt, with its coin belt, and if it hadn't broken beyond repair I'd never have cannibalised it, but it did, so I now have a heap of embellishments, lol).

And while I was cannibalising clothing, I used the thin black ribbon I got from a top (you know, the ones attached to the inside for hanging them on hangers with...), and hung some steampunky charms from it, as well as a couple more coins.
I also dry-brushed a large black bloom with more brass paint, and added another die-cut cog as a flower centre.

I attached "handles" to the drawers in the form of small black buttons and further embellished the drawers with black pearls. (Again, no Jack Sparrow, sorry!)

A side view.

As you can just make out, I attached the ribbon to the top of the little card with a Tim Holtz pin thingie.

And a view of the top. Yet more cogs and gears...

It didn't take my daughter long to snatch it up and scurry off to her room with it once it was done, and it now houses her jewellery collection.

Now, off you all go to ohhh and ahhh over the other girls' pieces, and if that isn't incentive enough for you to come play along, maybe this prize will be:

How awesome is that? I want it! But seeing as I'm not eligible, I'll have to live vicariously through the winner. So what are you waiting for? Go forth and win this challenge for me, so I can see what loveliness you'll make with it! lol.

I'd like to enter this project into the following challenges:

Altered Eclectics - April
Simon says stamp - Anything goes
All Crafts challenge - Anything goes
Allsorts - Use those dies
Left of Center - Anything Goes (if LOC)

Have a fantastical day!
