Mother's day/Special lady - Sweet Stampin'

Hi all,

It's nearly mother's day here in the UK, and Sweet Stampin' has a theme this week to mark the occasion: Mother's day (or for a special lady).

My mother loves two things very much, Tigers and music. She plays several instruments, and I try to always incorporate a little something music themed into things I make for her.
This year I've gone for a super CAS black and white look...

I was so happy to find the Stamp N' Stor tiger stamp at Samuel Taylors, as I hadn't found a single tiger stamp until now. When I say my mum loves tigers, I mean she LOVES tigers. I'm not sure there's anywhere in her house you can look and not see them!

This was so very difficult for me to make, as I'm still not quite comfortable with CAS, and white space scares me! Still, I'm happy with the effect the washi tape gives - an extra little something, without taking too much attention away from the tiger.

Ok, your turn now! Come play with us at Sweet Stampin' this week, and don't forget to take a peek at what my fellow Sweeties have been up to.

Have a fantabulous weekend!

No DP - Sweet stampin'

Afternoon all,

Apologies for the lateness of this week's Sweet Stampin' offering. I've spent all week thinking I was on a different day than I actually was (before you ask, yes, I was half-way to work on my day off before I realised, lol), and so I'm somewhat behind with this offering.

The new challenge this week is No Designer Paper, which made it a perfect excuse to break out the Distress inks and have a play with my new mixed media heavystock and stamps!

It's hard to tell from the photo, but there's a lot of gold accents that are so pretty and shimmery in real life. The card base is gold too! (look at me, using a non-white base twice in a row!)

Hope you'll come and play along with us this week!

Have a fantabulous weekend!

March challenge - Altered Eclectics

Hello again!

Back with altered art project number two of the day! This one is for Altered Eclectics, where we would also love to see your altered work!

I altered a MDF ATB from Fernli Designs

One of my absolute favourite discoveries is the Mixed Media Art Pad from Hobbycraft. as a general rule I tend not to shop at Hobbycraft, as they charge WAY over the odds for things, and our local branch focuses too much on peel offs and toppers, and doesn't really stock much in the way of useful supplies.
Their Mixed Media art pad however, is now one of my absolute essential staple products. It's definitely on the "desert island" list! It is fantastic at dealing with wet media, is super strong, but is also smooth and doesn't have the texture watercolour cardstock does.
I love it!
I used it both on the panels covering the block, and for the heart die-cuts. It reacted beautifully to my Distress inks. Seriously. LOVE it!

The stencil I used on the panels and the flowers on top are from one of my Craft Box boxes. to finish the top, I added a flourish from Fernli, and a heart pendant rescued from a broken necklace.

Some pearls and Tim Holtz smalltalk sentiments finish it off beautifully.

And that's my ATB. the photos don't really do the colours justice (it's far bluer in person), but not much one can do with this miserable weather we're having!

I hope you'll come and play with us this month!

Have an awesomesauce day!

March challenge - Rhedd's Creative Spirit

Morning all!

It's the first of the month again, which means I get to share a couple more altered art projects with you!
this time I will start with my project for Rhedd's Creative Spirit, where as always, Anything altered art goes. (mixed media is good too, but no paper items please!)

I decided to play with a dimensional MDF ATC from Fernli Designs

The image is out of a book that came into the shop... It contains pictures of thousands of postcards, from really old vintage 1800's ones, through to more modern. The picture I used is of Commander Scott of the Royal Navy from 1901.

I used several gears from the January Craft Box, and some other charms I had in my stash. The frame was a Docrafts one I didn't like much, so I painted it along with the rest.

The ATC has some texture, applied with a TH stencil and some black Dreamweaver texture paste, before I applied a coat of Ground Espresso Distress Paint. Then the ATC and the frame were highlighted with some antique gold Rub N Buff.

That's it from me... I hope you'll come play with us this month!

Back in a minute with post #2!
